Who are Edinburgh Motorcycle Training?
We are an independent, community-focused motorcycle riding school, not part of a national chain. All our instructors are DVSA-qualified with many years of experience between them. We will guide you through your journey to becoming a safe and confident motorcyclist, whatever your level.
The team is led by Colin, who has 45 years of motorcycling experience and is a Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Motorists. Several of our other instructors are IAM members too. Meet the team.
Where does the training happen?
Training courses start at Yard 15, Clippens industrial estate, Straiton, EH20 9NS. It is 5 minutes from the Edinburgh bypass and opposite Straiton retail park, and parking is available.
The yard gives us an off-road training area that is free from traffic and obstacles, which makes it ideal for learners in the early stages. We also train at Straiton Park and Ride, where the training area is large and free from obstructions and traffic.
What motorcycles do you use?
We run well-maintained motorcycles and scooters: 125cc machines for ITM and CBT, and larger bikes for Direct Access (700cc for category A, 450cc for A2). Helmets can be provided, and we can lend gloves and jackets too, though availability is limited so bring your own if you have them.
How is EMT different from other riding schools?
- Small groups. Never more than 2 students to 1 instructor on ITM, CBT and DAS.
- A proper first step. Complete beginners take a 1.5 hour Introduction to Motorcycling before their CBT.
- Time to get it right. A CBT includes up to 12 hours of training, with a second session if you need it.
- A clear route for DAS. A pre-DAS assessment places you on the 4-day or 5-day course, so you only pay for the training you need.
