Where do Edinburgh riders do their motorcycle training?
Most of our students live in Edinburgh. The south side of the city, including Liberton, Gilmerton, Fairmilehead and Morningside, is 10 to 15 minutes away, and the bypass puts Corstorphine, Sighthill and Leith within easy reach too.
Learning at Straiton rather than in the city centre has a practical advantage: you start on a private off-road yard, move to the large open area at Straiton Park and Ride, and only then ride on the road. Your first road miles are on quieter Midlothian roads before you meet busier city traffic.
If you do not drive, Straiton Park and Ride is a short walk from the yard and has regular buses from the city.
How do I get to the training yard from Edinburgh?
From Edinburgh, take the A701 or A702 south to the A720 bypass at Straiton. It is about 7 miles and takes 20 to 30 minutes by car in normal traffic outside rush hour. The yard is Yard 15 in the Clippens industrial estate, opposite Straiton retail park, and there is parking on site.
Address: Edinburgh Motorcycle Training, 15 Clippens Yard, Straiton, EH20 9NS. Open in Google Maps.
Which places near Edinburgh is the yard also handy for?
The same journey works from Liberton, Gilmerton, Fairmilehead, Morningside, Newington, Corstorphine, Colinton and Leith.
