Introduction to Motorcycling (ITM)

Edinburgh Motorcycle Training runs a 1.5 hour Introduction to Motorcycling (ITM) session for £55 per person at Straiton, EH20 9NS, 5 minutes from the A720 Edinburgh bypass. It is for people with no riding experience, has a maximum of 2 students per instructor, and must be completed before booking a CBT if you are a novice.

What is the ITM taster course?

The ITM is where most of our riders start. In 1.5 hours you get a feel for the motorcycle away from traffic, learn the essential safety principles and build the foundational skills that make your CBT day go smoothly.

Novice riders with no experience must complete an ITM before a CBT. It means everyone on a CBT day has already found their balance and the basic controls, so the CBT itself is calmer and more likely to be completed in a day.

Do I need an ITM before my CBT?

Yes, if you have no riding experience. Edinburgh Motorcycle Training requires novice riders to complete the 1.5 hour Introduction to Motorcycling (£55) before booking a CBT.

What happens on an ITM session?

You learn the controls, moving off, stopping and basic balance on an off-road area with no traffic, with one instructor for every 2 students. It lasts 1.5 hours.
