Why do Lanarkshire riders train at Straiton?

Eastern Lanarkshire looks towards Edinburgh more than you might expect. The A702 runs from Biggar straight to the Edinburgh bypass, and the A70 crosses the Pentland Hills from Lanark, so neither journey goes near Glasgow or the M8.

Riders from the Glasgow side of Lanarkshire, such as Hamilton and Motherwell, are about an hour away on the M8, the same as Glasgow itself.
