Is it worth travelling from Lanark to train?
From Lanark the road to the yard crosses open country: the A706 and A70 over the Pentland Hills to the western edge of Edinburgh, then the bypass round to Straiton. Riders from Carnwath and Forth come the same way.
An hour is a real trip, so plan around it. ITM and CBT are single days. Direct Access is a 3 hour pre-DAS assessment on a Thursday, then 4 or 5 days spread over about two weeks, with most training on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday and the two tests on weekdays.
How do I get to the training yard from Lanark?
From Lanark, take the A706 and A70 over the Pentland Hills, then the A720 bypass east to Straiton. It is about 36 miles and takes about an hour by car in normal traffic outside rush hour. The yard is Yard 15 in the Clippens industrial estate, opposite Straiton retail park, and there is parking on site.
