A1 and A2 Licence Training

Edinburgh Motorcycle Training offers A1 licence, A2 licence and A2 to A upgrade training by the hour at Straiton, EH20 9NS, 5 minutes from the A720 Edinburgh bypass. It costs £55 per hour with 2 students per instructor or £75 per hour one-to-one, plus test fees.

What is the A1 / A2 training course?

Not everyone takes the full Direct Access route. If you are 17 or 18 you can train for an A1 licence on a 125cc. From 19 you can take an A2 licence, which allows a motorcycle up to 47bhp. If you already hold an A2 licence you can upgrade to a full A licence from the age of 21.

This training is charged by the hour so you only pay for what you need.

  • Riders aged 17 or 18 going for an A1 licence
  • Riders aged 19 to 23 going for an A2 licence
  • A2 licence holders upgrading to category A

How much does it cost?

A1 and A2 Licence Training at Edinburgh Motorcycle Training costs £55 per hour (2 students to 1 instructor), £75 per hour (one-to-one).

What age can I get a motorcycle licence?

You must be at least 17 for an A1 licence (125cc), 19 for an A2 licence (up to 47bhp), and 24 for a full A licence by Direct Access, or 21 if you have held an A2 licence for 2 years.
